A twin is not a project from scratch. It is a layer over the sensors, ERP, MES and WMS that already report something today. If the data is not there yet, the first step is sensors, not visualisation, and I will say so at the start rather than halfway through.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions clients ask most often

How is this different from the Power BI dashboard we already have?

A dashboard shows what happened. A twin holds a model of the operation, so on top of the current state it can answer what-if questions: a different cycle time, a different layout, a missing machine. If a better report is all you need, I will say so and we will build a report. It is considerably cheaper and sometimes it is the whole requirement.

Do we need a 3D model or CAD documentation?

Not necessarily. Most of the value comes from a 2D floor plan or schematic, which can be drawn from a technical drawing or even from photos. 3D earns its place where space and height matter, typically in warehousing and handling. If you have CAD, it gets used; if not, it is not a prerequisite.

Our data lives in Excel and in the supervisors' heads. Is that workable?

It is workable as a start, but it is only fair to say a twin is only as good as the data beneath it. Excel and shift records are enough for a first model that shows bottlenecks. The moment it should answer continuously, it needs a continuous data feed, and that brings us back to sensors and connecting to ERP or MES.

How accurate is the simulation?

The model is first calibrated against a period you already know, and compared to see whether it produces what actually happened. Only once it matches is it worth trusting in scenarios. Accuracy is not an absolute number but a documented gap against reality, and you get that in writing.

What does it cost and how long does it take?

The first section takes weeks, and the price comes out of the audit that establishes the scope and the data sources. The bulk of the cost is usually not the visualisation but connecting and cleaning the data. That is why it starts with one section: you get both the price tag and the benefit on a small scope before deciding on the rest.

Who will run it?

You will, with documentation and source code, or I will under a monthly retainer. The honest part is that the model needs maintenance: the line changes, the product mix changes, the warehouse changes. An unmaintained twin will, within a year, be showing an operation that no longer exists.

Can the twin be connected to an AI assistant?

Yes, and it is a common second step. On top of the model you can put an assistant you question in plain language: where did we lose the most time yesterday, which machine has the most downtime per shift. The assistant reads the twin's data and answers with reference to specific values, not from memory.

Isn't this just a presentation for the board?

It can be, and that is the most common way to waste this kind of project. So for every twin we agree up front which decision it is meant to support and who will be looking at it. If no concrete decision turns up, my recommendation will be not to build it.
